• Tips for Keeping your Child Sharp Over the Winter Break

  • Winter break is just days away and both students and teachers will get to enjoy a break from the classroom, assignments and homework. However, this doesn’t mean they should stop learning. Here’s some of our favorite tips on how to keep your child’s reading and writing skills sharp.

    • Inquire with your child’s teacher about worksheets or activities that can be done from home over the holidays.
    • Research online and you will find plenty of online projects in all different subjects such as math, reading, spelling, and grammar for your child to work on over their winter break.
    • Spice up your child’s normal reading assignments and have them read out loud from the daily newspaper, a magazine, or a holiday book.
    • Go explore art, history, culture, science with your child at a nearby museum. Don’t have a museum nearby? No problem. Many well-known museums offer online exhibits.
    • Have your child write a holiday story. This is a great way for them to connect with the holidays using their own imagination and keep their creative writing skills sharp.
    • Include your child in menu planning and grocery shopping. Have your child write down the items you need for your holiday meal. Then, bring them shopping with you to learn how to spell and pronounce new words.
