• Healthy, Kid-Friendly Finger Foods

  • Sometimes the best way to get healthy foods into your kids’ bellies is through finger food! Most of the finger foods we are used to feeding our kids, like chicken nuggets and French fries, are full of hidden fats, sodium, and carbs. While a little every once in a while isn’t bad, regularly eating these kinds of food can be harmful to your child’s health and give them the wrong idea about the kinds of foods they should be eating. But finger foods aren’t limited to fried foods and potato products, you can make veggies, fruits, and other healthy alternatives just as fun to eat and just as delicious!

Here are a few kid-friendly finger foods that can give your kids the health boost they need:

    • Quesadillas – These are a quick and easy dish that can be enjoyed for snacks or meals. They offer a fairly clean hands-on experience for your kids and you can even customize the recipe to sneak in vegetables and other healthy alternatives.
    • Granola Bars – Snack bars are great because they function well on-the-go, and if you are watching which bars you grab at the grocery store, they are fairly high in nutritious fibers and fruits. However, they can easily hide sugars as well.
    • Oven-Baked Chicken Fingers – Fried is bad, but baked is good! Find a recipe you like and treat your kids to a healthy version of their favorite meal.
    • Baked Sweet Potato and Veggie Chips – Thin slices of fruits, veggies, and sweet potatoes can go a long way in the oven. Have them for a snack or along with dinner as a healthy side.
    • Fruit Kabobs – Skewer some fruit and you’ll be surprised how interested your children are in pulling them apart.
    • Frozen Yogurt Drops – Freeze dollops of your kids’ favorite no-sugar-added yogurt, and you’ll have a dessert they will love.
    • Peanut Butter and Jelly Rolls – This kid-friendly take on sushi can easily be put together with your everyday PB&J and a flour tortilla, or simply roll up a slice of bread. Cut them into pieces and you have PB&J sushi!
